89 TA no power

Have 89 T/A. Car has 200,000 miles on it.
Car idles fine but will not go over 30 MPH.
When I press the gas the car just boggs down.
Have replaced the wires, plugs, cap, rotor.
also have added fuel injector cleaner and octane booster
None of these attempts have helped.

The car does burn some oil, blue smoke out of exhaust

I wanted to check the timing but not sure what to set it for.
Looking in the Chiltons manual it says to set a 1989 engine code E
to 6B (Before Top Dead Center) the vehicle control label
on the bottom of the hood says to set it to 0 DR. Not sure what
DR stands. If it runs good at idle could it be timing? If so, what
should I set it at.

Also attempted to change the gas filter but the bolts are rusted on
and I'm worried I may crimp the fuel lines trying to get it off.

Also for some reason my fuel guage is now pegged at the Full mark

Any other ideas on what the problem may be?

Just cause your light isn't on doesn't mean there aren't any code being held in the ECM.

Hello,
first off, blue smoke means you are burning to much gas, black smoke and you burn oil, white smoke, here goes water...

Now did the car run fine BEFORE you changed all those things, or was it an attempt to fix the situation?

Re: 89 TA no power

also, because ou mentioned the blue smoke, you might be getting way to much fuel into the combustion chamber, which will slow you down, dramatically if the air/fuel ratio is way off. on top of my head I'd say ignition/timing off, or a fuel delivery problem, ...

200,000 miles might be the issue,

Why is it when my car is richer than piss, the smoke is black. When I sneeze a turbocharger, the oil is dumped directly into my intake manifold and I burn blue smoke? When I sneezed a head gasket, it was pressurizing my oil sump and pushing oil into my intake and burning blue smoke

don't know, you must have a real special car...., blue is gas, black is oil and white is water, you'll find that info pretty much everywhere...

Re: 89 TA no power

Bad fuel mixture is a good guess, especially since the exhaust smelled REALLY rich when I stopped over. -Marty
