Well, assuming you didn't set a code in the onboard computer yesterday and then have no recollection of it today-- . (If you did do that, I believe you can just pull the fuse for the OBC for a few minutes, then put it back in--or disconnect the battery).

This exact thing happened to me in 2001 with my 528e. Actually, it was more bizarre even than what you're experiencing. I drove my car to work, no problem. It was parked there for several hours. I started the car to leave, drove it to a different location at my job, and parked it FOR TWO MINUTES. When I returned, the car would crank fine but it simply would not start (exactly what you're experiencing--it seemed to me as if it was the anti-theft, except I hadn't set a code or anything--I mean the car was literally parked for 2 min.).

I left the car there for a day, came back and tried to restart it. Again, turned over fine but would not fire. Ultimately, I had the car towed to my mechanic, who diagnosed the fuel pump as having failed and replaced it.

So based on what you're saying, it is entirely plausible that the issue is you're fuel pump. I included the above story to illustrate how rapidly it can fail.

It could also be your distributor cap/rotor. A guy who came and looked at the car where it was thought that might be the problem. Unfortunately, I don't know how you'd determine what the problem is, but just some suggestions.
