Door panel speakers?

one of my door panel speakers is blown so i want to replace both door panel speakers. the question is what speaker do i replace the stock ones with? I was looking at the infinity kappa series but i'm not sure if they are too deep to fit. anyone know? Also there is a shallow mounting speaker that infinity makes for gm but i heard the bass is trash.
I have a box that i am gonna put in the truck with two 12's so i'm not concerned all that much with bass but the slight chance the box never makes its way to the truck i still want the sound to be good. I guess most of the sound comes from these two door speakers so i really need to know some quality speakers that will sound great and fit without having to force them in. all sugestions welcomed.

its a 2000 zr2 blazer stock face, stock speakers

Re: Door panel speakers?

sorry to tell you but for the most part you will have to use the gm shallow fitting spakers, its not all bad, put a couple 12's or 10s in the back, it brings lots of bass back with it

Re: Door panel speakers?

rockford fosgate.....are the best iv ever heard......
they cost $$ 130 a pair but they rock

i got rockford.. 6 1/2 in my 93 s10..there deep and fit perfect.....

iv got a friend who used DUAL...which are made by jenson....and believe it or not for $50 a pair sound pretty damn good. better that others costing almost double in my oppinion.

Unless you go with a really deep speaker like those often found in component sets, you should not have a problem installing them in the doors. The speakers are an "oversized" 6 1/2 (some call it a 6 3/4), a normal 6 1/2 will fit if needed but an oversized speaker or an oversize adapter will make things easier on you and make the install cleaner and more solid. There is no difference between an oversized speaker and a normal speaker other than the mounting flange, so there is no advantage to using an oversized speaker as opposed to a normal speaker with an oversized adapter.

In order to get the right performance, make certain that your speakers are in phase - meaning, make sure that the positives are hooked to positives, negatives to negatives. On GM vehicles, RF is Light Green + and Dark Green -, LF is Tan + and Gray -. On my '98 Blazer and some other GM vehicles, there is a "pigtail" on the doors where the colors change to Dark Brown +, Yellow - on each side. Be sure they are correctly matched or your bass response will be horrible, and the life of the speaker will be compromised.
