Exclamation Twincharged EVO

Yes, that's right, I said it. Apparently, someone out in CO came up with the scheme to twincharge (supercharge + turbocharge) a Mitsubishi EVO. There's a lengthy discussion going on about it, and he's quite serious.

Re: Twincharged EVO

That is very interesting. Kinda funny the other day I was thinking if that would be possible on my Civic. I thought about STS's remote turbo system, and then I though it would be cool to throw on a Jackson Racing SC. Imagine the HP capabilities. But then again, the flaws would be numerous. I don't know. Would something like that even be possible for the Civic? Or any other car for that matter? L8...

Re: Twincharged EVO

So...the supercharger is used to help reduce turbo lag?

Re: Twincharged EVO

Supposedly, the owner is looking for a 9 second quarter mile car, which is quite the feat at like 5000 ft. elevation he's at....dunno what that would be at sealevel, ask Mr. Luos....

He's using the supercharger to spool up the turbo by fooling it into thinking the engine is of a higher displacement....that's what I drew from reading the threads. I still want some turboheads' opinions on this board, and I'm still doubting its effectiveness. How will the fuel management system acount for both a supercarger and turbocharger....that would be quite the interesting map. and at what point does the boost switch entirely over to the turbocharger, which will be spooling faster than the belt-driven supercharger? Wouldnt the supercharger at some point begin to act as a restriction?

Re: Twincharged EVO

spools the turbo faster because the s/c makes larger exhaust volume at low rpms.

you just have to run rich everywhere lol.

Re: Twincharged EVO

Saw another car with that set up idea in an issue of SCC about a year or two ago.

i never though that you could do both but you learn something new everyday. He would probably need a computer in there to shut the sc off once the tc spools up. If in fact the sc would be a restriction at higher RPMs but i'm just assuming from logical thinking i don't know alot about the internal parts of cars.
