94 mustang gt too slow

hey guys i got a 94 mustang gt. its auto, and still has stock 4 cats and stock intake. has 3.73s in the rear. it just seems really slow on acceleration. it takes a couple seconds just to get the rpms up enough to get a good accel. is this just becuase those horse eating cats, bad intake, and stock throttle body, or is this something mechanically wrong? what can i do to make this thing go fast?

Yeah I'd say something is wrong when you have 3:73s in the rear and your acceleration is bad. I know that when I took the baffle out of mine and took the dirty air filter out and put a K&N in the thing seemed to open up a bit.
I really wouldn't know where to stary on yours though. See if your air filter is dirty though because that will eat horsepower. That'd be a good place to start. Also, after a while the cats will get dirty and start to block up the exhaust a bit. That could be another problem but your car would have to have some miles on it before that starts up.

my 95 gt...when u hit the go pedle it feels like it lags for about a hlaf second before it really starts to go. is this what you mean? and then at 3k rpm it starts to really pull. i was wiht the understanding it was common due to my firends 94 with a similar problem. hmm i cant really help you that much but just for kicks, define slow. are u comparing it to another stock mustang? or to another sports car or somthing like that? a stock 94 mustang {especially auto} should not be expected to be the fastest thing on the road. im not saying thats what u wanted but, my 95 auto was disapointingly slow when i first got it...i put underdrive pullies on/ advanced the ignition timeing/ riped out that pesky air snorkle/ and pulled out back seats/sparetire/jack etc. and new air filter/fluids and all that stuff. it woke it up nicely but it still in no vette. if u are used to faster cars there may not be a problem. althouh i would really think the gears would wake it up alot

Re: 94 mustang gt too slow

that is exactly what i am talking about. the like half second of delay untill the rpms go up and the car goes. i am used to an 88 mustang which had a cold air, headers, no cats so i could just be normal. but i must say that i think the root of the main problem lies in the fact that stock the car comes with 4 cats!!! i am getting rid of them next weekend. any suggestions on x-pipes?? im looking at bbk

Re: 94 mustang gt too slow

hmm...are u set on x pipes? im not a fan of the sound but with certian aplications they do seem to provide the right touch. hmmm lets see. what are you going to pair it with if anything? i would still not think that that would be your main problem...i have a frined with a 94 gt...manule...with bb shorty headers...some h pipe...and flowmasters...and then a b&m short throw shifter. my 95 runs right with him all the way up with the stock midpipe. after u clearing up what ur used to and that u didnt have to high expectations, there has to be somekinda problem... it shoulnt be that slow. no smoke out of the pipes? any visual thing that would Q a problem? im stumped. maybe there is a weight set in the spare tire well...haha jk

Re: 94 mustang gt too slow

i not dead set on the x-pipe. im between the bbk x or the mac h-pipe. it will be going along with either a magnaflow or slp exhaust and eventually mac shorty headers. no uncommon smoke and no vision exept for the fact that a little bit ago while reving the engine at standstill my buddy notice a few black peices of the honeycom of the cat fly out of the tailpipe. thats what leads me to think it could be that.

Re: 94 mustang gt too slow

ahh. my gues is that the insides of the cat are messed up...its giving the o2 sencers weird signals and it is fudging up the proformance.

Re: 94 mustang gt too slow

and x pipe will decrease the back pressure a ton. if u plan to run long tube headersa and a slp or magna pack{both straight threw mufflers} it would not give you optimal proformance on a car wihtout a power adder to make up for it or some knarly 347 stroker. it might be save a few hp if you go with an h pipe. as for mac...i have herd a lot of stories knocing macs headers but alot of people love the prochamber h pipe that mac makes. if u go x pipe , magna packs and a dr. gas x pipe sound pretty good. if you go slp any x pipe will osund really raspy and farty as the slp is already failry raspy. if u go slp...i would use macs prochamber. if $ is an issue any off road h will do ya but boy itll be loud. but i love it loud, if u can deal with it its great.
