Question Degreased 4.0, now tranny not engaging past 2nd

Here's an odd one. I cleaned my '89's 4.0 today (degreaser and water wash) trying to avoid wetting the distributor cap etc. After finishing I went to drive and now my auto transmission won't upshift past 2nd. Reverse is fine.

Did I soak a vacuum hose? Did I get an electrical connection wet? This one stumps me as I have never had an issue with the tranny previously.

Any ideas welcomed! Thanks all!

This is a tough one. Did you power wash it with a high pressure? The thing that comes to mind is a sensor either got wet or got its connection knocked loose. You may just need to spend some time inspecting all around the engine and transmission to see what got knocked loose.

Update: Looking for new/used TPS now...

Thanks to the two of you for your help... it would seem as if it is the TPS. I took it off and used a hair dryer on it but to no avail so I am looking for a used one locally or on eBay. I would have never thought of the throttle sensor as being a potential culprit so I really appreciate the help!

Of all the times I have cleaned the engine I have never run into this before... of all the mud and water I have taken the Jeep through it is ironic that it would go belly up from cleaning the rig... I'll watch that bugger from now on.

Thanks again...
