Radiator Fans do not run except with AC on
1996 3.8L windstar.
Radiator fans run as normal with the A/C on. They do not come on like they used to by temperature activation. Does anyone have a common cause for this. I know that the thermal sensor is near the thermostat. And that the Constant Control Relay (CCR) controls the low speed fan On/Off. But would like to know if anyone else has had this problem.....and what the solution was. |

Re: Radiator Fans do not run except with AC on
I don't have an answer but I have heard of this happening before.
Is it possible that the fans automatically turn on with the AC regardless of themperature activation? What I am proposing is that htere are two ways to turn on the fans (like two parallel switches) and your Temperature acvtivation switch is bad but the AC switch can turn them on? Just a guess here |

Re: Radiator Fans do not run except with AC on
Fans seem to be working now.
I installed a new CCRM (Constant Control Relay Module). I also removed and re-installed the connectors on the 2 thermal sensors (found that I had gotten the wrong sensor). All connections were tight and looked clean inside. So could have been a connection, or could have been the CCRM. Most people would not notice that the fans did not work...except with the A/C working...as the A/C runs in all settings except "Vent" and "OFF". So the fans cycle much more....and would not activate by the temperature. I test this function each spring....and it failed this time. They pass now. |
