Question Power window problem

I have a 1994 Buick Century and when I first got it the dealership replaced the window motor on the passenger side and it worked for a while but it seemed as though all of the power going to it went out and it got slower and slower going up and now it is stuck about one inch from being rolled all the way up. Should I replace the motor and regulator again or could it be a wiring problem or both because all 3 of the other windows work fine except that one and there is no power going to it at all. I think its possible that even after you pressed the button to roll it up that power was still going to it and burned the motor out. How can I fix my problem. Thank you for all suggestions.

Well, this was my initial thought. Doesn't the driver side have controls for all the wndows in the car? You said that it's the passenger window that has no more power, but the other windows work, right? If by this you mean that all of the other swithches work, then I wouldn't mess with it, just use the the switch on the driver side to roll up/down the passenger window and save your money. If you mean that none of the switches for the passenger side window work (on the driver's side or passenger's side), then the problem may be just that, bad switches. Good luck.

What i meant was that the passenger side window does not work at all the drivers side or passenger side switches work to roll up the passenger side and its annoying because its stuck like an inch down. how would i replace the switches and i heard i might have to solder something also is there any way i can get a wiring guide or something to show me where these wires are coming from?

Re: Power window problem

[Some libraries have good auto mechanic manuals for loaning out. I had a power window work intermittently, then stop working totally, discovered it was caused by a broken wire in the bundle that snakes by the door hinge. Since that flexes alot, makes sense it broke there. Reading your problem , not sure if you have electricity going to the motor or not, taking off the door panel and energizing the motor directly would tell you what part it wrong, wiring/switch or motor.

Re: Re: Power window problem

I had the same problem, passenger side only moving very slow. I disabled it in the up position so I would not have a window half down at some point. I took the door apart and lubed the tracks, still no help. I looked for a door with a manual crank window at the junk yard to no avail.

An earlier post months ago mentioned these power window motors start to draw lots of current and the contacts open. Wait a minute and try again...... same results.

Like the previous post said: power window working intermittently is usually a broken wire in the bundle that snakes by the door hinge.

I've had a similar problem on mine unforutunatley its looking as if your either going to have to do some crazy wiring w/ replacement or some kind of advanced all day for a power window type work. Make sure that you check to see if your gears aren't burned out inside of the motor, if I'm thinking straight on that year buick they started putting the boxes around the motor to help prevent theft and to keep the wires from shorting (look what that accomplished). Try to keep out of that box as much as possible unless you read the manual well because even if it is a wire that is short your going through a lot of trouble just to get your window back working. Chances are though its nothing more than what was mentioned in an earlier post that doesn't need to be mentioned again. I'd just make sure that everything is connected properly first, then check all of my wires in the DRIVER door. Due to the fact that there is a lot more controls on that side, it is more likely that if there is a short that it will be on that side.
