CPS, tips to change it

I'm sure mine is bad. The Jeep died the other day and I already checked for no spark. I changed the coil and still no spark. Must be the CPS. Any tips on changing it, I heard it's a bit of a pain to get to.

Hmmm, well it wasn't tough on my Wrangler. It's in the very top of the bellhousing behind the head. two bolts to get it out, but I don't know exactly where it is a JGC make sure when you post to let us know what engine, year, tranny etc.

Re: CPS, tips to change it

it's a 96 4.0 with the 42RE. I located the sensor and will be replacing it in a few hours. looks like a PITA to get to.

check to see if your fuel pump is kicking on when you turn the key, does the CHECK ENGINE light come on when you turn the key?

Fuel pump is fine and I checked for fuel at the fuel sample port on the fuel rail. The problem is no spark. I was out playing in some deep snow the other day and it just died on me. So far I have replaced the coil and crankshaft sensor and still no spark. Most likely a loose wire or ground somewhere. And no check engine light either. But the voltage guage on the dash doesn't indicate any juice either when it is a fully charged battery. So it seems there is a bad ground somewhere. I have someone coming over tomorrow to help me out. I can change a u-joint in 15 minutes and a tranny in about 6 hours, but really hate electrical problems. Any advice is welcome.

MX52NV: Do you have an Audio system installed ? Or Alarm ? Well if so I'm thinking that could be it. I had a similar problem with no spark all I would hear would be a Click Click in the front when I try to start it. And everything would die on me, no power at all. Problem was I had a bad Capacitor. It drained the battery. Good Luck and let us know what the electrical guy says.

MX, Check for voltage at on the voltage supple wire of the Cam Sensor, should be a white/black wire, you should have approximately 8 volts with the key in the ON POSITION....

Re: CPS, tips to change it

Well ladies and gentlemen, I get the fool of the week award. After replacing the coil and CPS, I had someone else look at it. It ended up being a small 20amp fuse in the main fuse block in the engine compartment. I checked all of the big fuses the day before. I feel so dumb, but at least I don't need to worry about the coil or CPS for a long time, lol.
