96 3.8 couple of problems

first off my van is over heating ... ive changed the thermostate , it still overheats, i changed the temp sencer (just above the thermostate )thats didnt seem to help ; i put good antifreeze in it that didnt help. now i can hear my fans come on so it seems that it would cool down so far the only way i seem to be able to cope with the problem is to turn the heater on but even when it shows hot the heater will be blowing cold air ocasionally.

second i checked my air filter as a tuneup tip and there was oil dripping from the botom of it and my throttle body is all gunked up with oil, the van seems to run fine for a day or two but any time after it has goten hot , even after it has cooled , when i got to start it i have to almost floor it to keep it running but after about 30 seconds on the gas it seems to idle out fine with the ocational studder,

third my abs is having the same as some others are having in here it pops in at 10 miles and hour some times i can get the light to come on by pumpiing the brake , i hear and feel a klunk from the passenger side when i push on the brake fast almost like it grabbing it all at once and not gradualy

and last my door light seems to stay on even when all my doors are shut and tight

please if you know any way to fix any of these problems it would be greatly apretiated if you could fill me in thanks in advance

Re: 96 3.8 couple of problems

Hi,
I fixed my 'Door ajar' problems by spraying WD-40 into the 'latches' for the rear-door. I read where theres was a faulty switch in there to detect open-or-close. This after repeatedly slamming the side-door and sanding the contacts.
Cold Air - last time I had that problem (98), I also replaced the T-stat (thinking that's what it was). A day later I came out of the store and the engine was seized-up. Yep, the ole' Head-Gasket problem. Fortunately it was covered under the recall.

btw: I drive a 95 3.8L with 130kmi.

1. Sounds like head gasket
2.change pcv, although a bit of oil in there is not too abnormal, mine has been like that for years,
3, Run rough on hot start up, sounds like vac leak in intake gasket.
4.a.b.s. Rear wheel sensors have too big of an air gap between sensors and exciter ring, need to bend sensor brackets to reduce gap.
ABS Light coming on probably due to sightly low on brake fluid .
5. Tailgate door ajar switches on latches , best to replace.

These repairs are based on my experience, does not guarantee they will fix yours, but good chance.
If you read all previous threads posted for the last month , you will find lots of info about the above problems.
Good Luck
