I have a 2000 Chevy Extreme. My Truck will not start randomly on occasion. When I turn the ignition I get dash lights, I hear the fuel pump turn on but I get no voltage to the starter. I verified I am getting 12V to the starter just fine. HERE IS WHERE IT GETS WEIRD.. When it will not start if I tap on the brake, it will start!!!!! It is more likley NOT to start when it's parked on a incline also.. WEIRD EH??? Sometimes I have to tap harder and longer then other times but it will start. I replaced the starter, same issue, I replaced the ignition saftey switch, same issue. the ONLY thing in my thoughts it could be is the ignition switch but on several occasions when it wouldn't start I have beat the living hell out of the collum to see if it would kick, NADA.
ANY IDEAS ??? I am thinking it's an electrical issue. Thanks, Allen Mance [email protected] |

Have you tried moving the shift lever slightly while trying to start? it's possible that the safety start switch that hooks to the shifter is out of adjustment.

Re: Trouble with Chevy extreme starting..help!=)
IT IS NOW FIXED.. It was the theft tracking device that was in the wiring under the steering collum. It had a short in one of the junk microwires going to it. I rewired the ignition "Yellow Wire" to where it was obviously snipped and now it is 100%. It sucks that I replaced a starter and ignition saftwey switch for nothing but at least it is fixed.
Thanks allot to the person who told me to check the wiring under the steering collum!!!!!!! Allen |
