what does CPI mean?

In the engine description of the 4.3L Vortec V6 there is a CPI and a non CPI on some of the performance intake pages, can anyone tell me what it means?

Re: what does CPI mean?

CPI means Central Port Injection. One injector squirting fuel to all cylinders at the same time. Then the engine pulls the fuel into the cylinder as needed.
The later engine use a sequential fuel injection which has six injectors which squirt as needed.

Re: what does CPI mean?

on some auto parts websites you can put in your VIN also and it can tell which injector you have from that.I believe it is the 7th digit which is a letter that determines it. I know mine is a "Z" and I have a TBI which is the 6 injectors. But I have a 92 S10 which is an earlier version.

You better check, if you have a TBI 4.3 you have two injectors in the Throttle Body.

Re: what does CPI mean?

ah yep my mistake. I never looked in there really except to change my air filter but now I see. I guess than that the blazers in total have 3 different injection systems? one being CPI, one being TBI and one being all six injectors.

Re: what does CPI mean?

You can't see the injectors themselves until you remove the upper intake plenium. If the fuel lines go into the top, that is sequential.

Re: what does CPI mean?

I always thought it meant Crappy Plastic Injection - but seriously, it is a great injection system. Deadly simple and elegant in it's design. I just wish that it was more accessable - I am a hands-on kind of fellow, but needing an hour to take the upper plenum off of my '95 VIN "W" 4.3's just...

Well at least it is easy to work on. Hour to an hour and a half of time and you can rebuild the whole thing. SMPFI on my Scooby and the Dodge were a *tad* easier to handle. Everything was right there in the open. Though, making sure that you got all of the rubber gromets and gaskets back in place on the fuel rails and the ports themselves was sometimes a test of patience.

If the choice was to give or take the CPI, overall - it's a keeper. Cheaper too... One Bosch replacement injector on my Subaru would soak me for upwards of $200 a piece. You can have the entire CPI and regulator for just a little more dough, and that is the last time you have to sweat it for at least 75,000 miles.

Re: what does CPI mean?

Ok. Im still just a little confused with all of this. When I took the top part of my intake off of my 95, I could see 6 little plastic lookin hoses. I was told to replace them if I can smell gas in the oil. They seemed a little stiff but I thought thats how they were supossed to be. IDK?

Re: what does CPI mean?

The plastic lines will be stiff, no problem with that. What you need to look for is a clean area inside the manifold. That will indicate where the leak is. Or while you have the upper plenium off, turn the key on. That will pressure up the injector, regulator and fuel feed lines and you should be able to see the leak.

Re: what does CPI mean?

how much different is a X vin (SEFI, Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection)?

that is what I have, and I have been experiencing problems similar to this thread
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...6&page=1&pp=15

But if what is suggested was for the CPI engines....what would I have to do differently for a SEFI engine?
