Hello,
I am looking for a Jetta. I am looking for a used 2000 up Jetta. Around the 50,000 mile mark. I want either the 2.0 or the 1.8 engine. What should I look for when searching for this car? What has everybody experienced with these cars? How much should I plan on spending? Is there a lot of maintance? I've had my mind set on a Jetta for a while now, but recently I've heard some negative things about them. I have heard more positives then negatives though. Let me know what you think. Thanks. |

Re: Jetta Questions
I've got a 2000 VR6 with 180,500 miles on it and it's still running great. It's a car, so like any other things break and maintenance is required, but I love it. The gas mileage is great, it's a very comfortable ride, there are plenty of aftermarket parts to customize with... I love my VW, and if I have any say I'll never own anything but again. Make up your own mind, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Don't Do it!
I have a 2000 V6 and I hate it! Every other month something else is wrong with it. I've had several recalls and my heater unit needs to be fixed and I only have 56,000 miles. The glove box hindge is broke off, the center console button is broken, (mind you I don't consider myself rough on a car) Go with a Honda or Toyota... you can't go wrong!

Re: Don't Do it!
Sounds like you've had some bad luck with yours. Awful news, I had the same luck with the car I had before this, 98 dodge neon. If you don't like your jetta, why do you still own it and why are you in this forum? Don't swear off all VW's. They are more to maintain between parts and qualified labor. So if you don't want the expense, buy a domestic car.

kinda funny b/c my sister owns a 99 jetta and something is always wrong with it. they can't get the power windows to work for more than a month. always breakin or sometime they have a mind of their own. she has had the worst experiences from the dealerships she has taken it to have warrenty work done. they blame her for parts breaking when we know it's the cheap way they are built and i know of a freind when she drives her car it will randomly shut off. she took it to the dealer 5 times and they say the car is fine. they test drove it and everything for 500 miles.(so they say).
save yourself some agony and go with toyota or honda
