Offroading in Iowa

Does anyone know of any good offroading spots in eastern Iowa or western Illisnois? I'm getting a bit tired of the same spot every time ("600 acres", actually about 127, near Solon, IA).

My advice to you is to move to wyoming or utah. Or at least visit there. i haven't seen much in your area of the state, and i know there isn't much where i'm from.

Re: Offroading in Iowa

I live in the middle of northern IL and the only places around here are corn/bean fields...it really sucks. Later this summer we're heading to the Badlands in Attica, IN though. Also there's probably some places in southern WI. I know they have a lot of ATV trails so maybe some place for trucks???

Re: Offroading in Iowa

I've been thinking about spending a week out west once I get my truck built up a bit. There's no point in me going now, I'd shell out my front diff (it's a bit squirley right now) in a few hours climbing the stuff I've seen in pictures.

Andy, have you ever been to Badlands? How is it? I'm going with a group this summer, wondering if I should take my mostly stock truck, or ride shotgun in a built Jeep.
If you got saturday open, there's a Jeep Forum get together out at 600 acres. It's not a bad park at all, just gets a bit repeditive for the locals. PM me (DON'T EMAIL, I can't access it right now) for directions if interested (same goes for anyone else). My buddy who is a member of the forum said there's gonna be built Jeeps from all over the midwest coming in. Should be a fun day. Anyway, I'll post some new pics from there when I get back.

Here's a few to give you an idea of what it's like

^^^Damn that looks like fun...I wish I had a truck sometimes so I could do shit like that.

I've never been to the Badland, but my friends (not the truck ones) go there like every other weekend in the summer with their quads.

Here's their site Make sure you check out the rules page though...they got some crazy thing about roll bars there.

Re: Offroading in Iowa

Thanks for the link, but there's no way I'd take my truck on fine sand like that. It gets everywhere. If you're ever going to be in Iowa when I'm offroading, you're welcome to ride shotgun.

J-Ri i might just have to come visit ya sometime before i sell my truck, those trails look like a hell of a lot of fun! I live in Northwestern Iowa and we use to have some awesome trails up until a damn F4 sized tornado went and trashed it. Now it'd take at least a weeks worth of hard work to get all the trees out of there, and that's with probably 10 guys.

That'd be great. It's always fun wheeling with new people. I'll probably be going out there again within the next few weeks. A buddy of mine seems to be getting pretty anxious. I just bought a set of 6 mud tires for $60... All I need is some 15x10 rims (8 on 6.5 lug pattern, only a few manufacturers make them) to put em on. I'll post again when I know the date for sure. Everyone's welcome to come. The park is free and has a good variety of terrain. It's located just outside Ely Iowa. Map here http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...Q1aNJAGrI06%2b
