My car lost all power at 105mph. My friend told me it is a speed govenor, is there a way to take it off? or upgrade if it is a computer chip?

2000 shutting off at 105 I doubt it was the speed gov. Plus if I am not mistaken speed gov won't shut off your car it just won't allow you to go any faster. I have a 98 and acn go 125+ without it shutting off.

You can get or reprogram your old one with out a speed gov. alot of the members here have reprogammed pcm

Re: Re: speed govenor

is there anywhere that can program the EEPROM? besides the dealership? Is it possible to program it to handle straight pipes and get more than 105mph?

I have a 97 GT and my car tops out at 108 to be exact. the car shuts off the gas flow for a few seconds. it def has enough power to keep going faster though.

Handles 130+ with no troubles. But that's with a GTX and GTP. Same frame

Re: speed govenor

Get a DHP and that should solve your problem

Re: speed govenor

Summit racing has a handheld cpu that will do that. the dealership will NOT take it off. they are not aloud to do that. as far as the speed gov, the computer will tell the fuel injectors to slow down the fuel, your engine will not turn off or stall.

This is the CPU that Ripn is talking about.

Re: speed govenor

It is like a code scanner, but it will take off the speed gov and you can do alot with that thing, lean fuel everything.

Re: speed govenor

i think a DHP PCM is about the best way to go. that is of course if they offer one for your SE. if you have the 3800 engine you are good to go, but if not then i dont think you will have any luck with a DHP. there are other things to do for mods but to beat the speed limiter a PCM is the only way i know of. hope i helped
