Warm start

Alright ever since I got my car, if you were driving fully warmed up, parked and came back after a little bit if the engine was still warm it wont run right at idle untill you drive a few seconds. Today I came home parked and went inside. I came back out to leave about 20 minutes later and the car wouldn't stay running for more than a few seconds and just cut off. If i started it and gave it gas it would sound like it was knocking?? which scared me so I stopped. A little over an hour later after sitting in the garage with the hood open to cool it started right up and ran fine. What's causing this and why is it getting so bad?? advice? sorry for the long post.

Re: Warm start

Could be the vac line that goes to the FPR, or the FPR solinoid

Re: Warm start

do you have a vr4? it means your turbos are flooded. either 1) buy a turbo timer or 2) let the car sit/idle for 1 minute before you shut it off.

fixed.

happened to me all the time before I knew what was going on.

Re: Warm start

if you run your car, then shut it off fast, your turbos get flooded, and if you try to start your car like 10 minutes after you shut it off it will run very rough, like it wants to die, and you have to pump the gas for about a minute to unflood them (while the car is running) or let it sit for 1-2 hours.

omaro, you need to increase the time before your TT shuts the car off. You need to let the car idle longer.

It already idles for 1:00, how much longer do you suggest? also if i give it gas while i'm trying to get it to stay idling it sounds like it's knocking and running on 4 cylinders.

Re: Warm start

I guess i was more looking for an answer to what turbos flooding is. There is no fuel going to them, and generally when someone says the engine is flodded it means there is to much liquid fuel sitting in the cylinders for the engine to fire.

Re: Warm start

i think when Gateway says "turbos flooding" he is referring to the oil that can get clogged in the turbos if the car is turned off immediately, without giving the car enough time to circulate the hot oil through the lines and the oil cooler to cool off.

Re: Warm start

But that doesnt stop the car from starting, it just makes your turbos fry sooner, which it the reason our turbos have water lines, and using synthetic oil furthure cures this problem.
