95' del sol broken timing belt

Well, I don't deal with Honda's too much, so I'm not famaliar with the engines. My friend has a 95 Vtec Civic del sol. 140k on it(he never changed the timing belt before). Not real bright on his behalf, but nonetheless, it snapped while he was driving. Is the vtec engine an interference engine? The google-ing I've done makes it seem so. Would it be worth pulling the head anyway just to check, and have it rebuilt? Also, I'm thinking about re-ringing the engine while I have the head off. I can't run a compression test as-is, but I'd think 140k on this engine would have some signifigant wear on the piston rings. But, i'm just asking the experts Thanks ahead for your advice and opinions. I'll be tearing into the engine tomorrow. Don't wanna have to pull the head unless I absolutely have to. But, I don't wanna do the belt, and end up having bent valves, and have to tear it down again either.

Re: 95' del sol broken timing belt

all honda engines are interference. so pop the head off and check to see how many valves are bent.
