Redline.... and shift point
I was wondering..I installed a nice Tach with a small remote shift light in my younger brothers 91 Civic Hatch.. it has the D15B2 motor and is bone stock except for exhaust.. what is the Redline on this engine? and whats a good rpm to set the shift light at (hes fairly new to Standard tranny)..thanks for any info..I'm kinda going to hate giving him his car..I've grown rather attached to it..great little car..fun.. and easy to work on.
Thanks VR4 Last edited by VR4forlife; 03-30-2005 at 12:51 AM. |

the redline is at 6800, i would set the shift light for 6500 or even 6400. Mine is around there bc after a certain point you have no power and that way your reaction in 1st is almost perfect.

Re: Redline.... and shift point
when you say it stops making power does that mean the power increase has ceased and its just holding the same power output level.
and wouldn't you want to rev higher to have a righer torque rating when you shift into your next gear?

well.. i've never seen a dyno for a b2 but I'm pretty sure the curve is gonna start going down around there cause they're always listed as making there peak power at around 6000

Re: Redline.... and shift point
the rev limiter is 7200rpm. but there is no need to rev past 6000 or 6300 to keep it in the power any higher it just falls flat on its face...and they dont have a revlimiter there to bounce off everytime you shift, it is to keep you from killing the motor when you miss a gear or something . redilne starts at 6000 rpm.

Re: Redline.... and shift point
no way the dpfi's revlimit is at 7200, you mgith be thinking of the mpfi. because at the time of shifting, it feels like its losing power. so taking it any higher would make your car slower
