HEy you all enthusiasts,
I have recently adquired a 93 civic Coupe. Black, no rims, no intake no nothing. I have always wanted to have a coupe and fix it up, a friend of mine owns a body shop, i also know a really good mechanic. But what i am asking for is advise on what to do to it TO MAKE IT BURN RUBBER!!! I used to have a Chevelle and we would go to the track all Thursdays, now i have this Civic but know nothing about imprts, HELP!!! WHat do i do first to gain some HP, then what? Do i fix the body first? Isn't it beta to have a jacked up body with sick brains than a sexy car with no pwer? let me know what you all think, you can post here all you want, i'ma paint this sucka too, but i want to have performance before looks. I just changed the Water Pump and Oxigen Sensor. Changed the thermostat too. What should the timing be? i have a 16 valve, 1.5 L engine. 4 cylinders. Going to change the transmission to manual pretty soon. Any good advice as to what transmission or where to get it cheap? Thank you everyone or whatever imput you may provide.

Re: Performance how-to's 93 CIvic coupe
Also, i have a problem, i thought it was the gas pump relay but they said it was not (had it checked at a mechanic)
Whenever i drive it, i rev it up and f i drive at high speeds for a long time, or from stop to fast. As soon as i get to a stop sign or stop light the engine dies and won't turn on for a couple of seconds. This means that i go from. STOP>>>>>FAST(pedal to the metal)>>>>>STOP and then it turns off. Any ideas as to what it might be? Like i said they said it was not the relay. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Performance how-to's 93 CIvic coupe
The only way to get real power out of the stock motor is to turbo it. The stock motor is only 102hp, so adding basic bolt-ons isn't going to give you that much power. What most people do is swap the motor out with a DOHC Integra or JDM Civic/Del Sol VTEC/'99-'00 Si (b16a) motor. But it's been proven that you can get more hp gains from a turbo on a stock motor than just swapping in the b16a. It really depends on what your hp goals are and how much $ you're willing to spend though. For good info on turboing the current motor check out www.turbod16.com and www.homemadeturbo.com. For info on the different motors to swap in check out this FAQ page on the '92-'95 page: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ad.php?t=19176
As for transmission, I'd say go with the Si or EX tranny for their closer and shorter gearing. For that check you local junkyard or classified ads on here and other sites. Between looks and power; most people here would rather go for hp first before looks. Of course not everyone agrees though. Unfortunately the reality of things is that when you buy a Civic and go for all looks yet still have the stock slow motor, you get called a Ricer. That's just my opinion (and a lot of others who have been there and done that). |

Maybe fuel filter? Try posting the second question in the '92-'95 forum, there's more traffic in that forum. And you'll have to wait for a response, there are times that are more busy than others on here; and you have to be more patient for people to see and answer your questions (sometimes a few hours or a whole day).

Re: Performance how-to's 93 CIvic coupe
He is right. It would be better to turbo your engine than to do a swap ( And Cheaper ). But if you dont have the $$$ a quick fix would to just increase the air your engine sucks in to increase your hp. Intake, exhaust.. etc.

Re: Performance how-to's 93 CIvic coupe
If you want the turbo to work better you could do a mini me swap first then add a turbo. because when you do a mini me swap your only swapping the engine head and since your engine is a D17B7 then you could swap your head to a D16Z6 which will give you much better horsepower then just turboing it. and it only cost about 300 to 400$ but you also have to get the D16Z6 ecu to to make it run properly.hope it helps
