Is the TT-01 Really worth it???

Theres a hobby store nearby where I go to my driving school, and because it is March break, it is selling TT-01's cheaper than the original price. The cost for one incl' taxes will be about $270 US, motor, radio-gear, battery and charger is all included. Only thing else I need is Paint, but that won't be too much....will it?

So what do you guys think, is it worth it?? I'm going back on Sunday....the last day its still on sale.

if ur just starting with the hobby its worth it. but if you're an intermediate hobbyist i wouldn't suggest it and instead buy a more race ready kit.

What is the gear it comes with? That might not be a bad price, depending on what you get.

go to www.towerhobbies.com. you won't find a better deal without a fluke. you will save lots of money and not have to run around buying different parts at different places. they have the best customer service also. after like 30 orders with hundreds of parts i've bought, they happened to forget somethin, a shock tower for my t-maxx. i wrote em an e-mail and within 24 hours they an e-mail back to me and had the part out the door on its way to my house. they are seriously the only way to go if you want an all around great buying experience

Well, it came with the Tamiya TEU-101BK ESC, a Tamiya RC2004SP Racing Pack Ni-CD 2400mAh battery and charger, and a two channel radio gear by a company called Acoms. The controller is a pistol, and is called the "Technisport V"

I bought the car already, and I am pretty happy with it. However, my parents weren't....they say its too expensive and that I should stick with Radio-shack ones

Re: Is the TT-01 Really worth it???

Oh and btw....how long does a battery take to charge? I don't have anything advanced, my charger does not have a timer on it, it just plugs into the wall and charges.

Re: Is the TT-01 Really worth it???

I think you made a good decision, especially since the car came with an ESC. With some bearings, oil shocks, and a peppier motor, you'll have a solid car that should last a long time. I believe the radio is just a Futaba radio with a new label: That should be really solid as well. Which body did you get?

What is the charge rate of your current charger?

How strapped are you for cash now? The reason I say this is because those 'power cord' model chargers are not really the best things for your batteries. If you can swing it, get yourself an inexpensive peak charger, which you just plug it in, push a button, and it stops when the battery is done. You can get one for about $50 that will do everything you want, even NiMH cells if you go that route (You can also use them to charge batteries around the house, like for the TV remote, your CD player, etc) Duratrax even sells a basic one for under $20 if you have a DC power supply (Like a car battery, or even an old PC power supply).

If you have to, you can go for a timer model, and just pay attention to the heat of the pack: When it's warm, it's 'done' (Same with your current charger, just faster): Not really ideal, but it will keep you from damaging the pack. If you have a digital volt meter, that will help a lot, as you can tell when the voltage begins to drop more then 0.10 volts, the pack is done. If you have a DVM already, a timer model should suffice, but if you have to buy both, just get a peak charger.

There were many kits avaliable to choose from, ranging from the Enzo the the Mercedez benz ( 190E I think?) to the Raybrig NSX to the Calsonic GTR and the Xanavi Nismo Z. I, however chose the Xanavi Nismo GT-R because I liked it best...but I think it will be really hard to paint the two - tone color, as I am not an expert at masking. My body might stay transparent for a while....or if I can afford it, get a different body for the meantime. I am considering the 190mm Silvia S15 one from HPI, but I am not sure if that is in stock. (not allowed to buy online)

My car is completely stock for now and will probably stay that way for a good few months. I am planning to get bearings first then possibly the dampers. I'm probably going to stick with this motor for a while though, and instead get the aluminum driveshaft and the aluminum steering set. I'll have to wait until I have more money, then I'll decide.

As for the charger, yes I have the crappy "Power Cord" charger. My parents don't want me to waste any more money, but I will probably get a different charger eventually, probably in like 6 months. I am considering a Peak Charger, but they seem to be pretty expensive to what I can afford. My current charger gives off 9V ~ 500 mA.

This is my first time using a "Real 1:10 R/C touring car", so I have no previous experience with the 7.2 Volt battery. I would have gotten a Nitro, but then I have read the threads saying that an electric will be much easier to maintain (for a begginer) and be much quieter.

My ESC is one of the cheap ones though, where the replacement price is about $30 US. I don't plan on going all hardcore, spending a few grand on my car though so I am happy with what I have.

This is the controller I have, nothing too advanced with the lap-timers or computers....just a basic pistol controller. I can also use my x-mod crystals too, if I wanted to.

And my car:

The chassis took me around 6 hours to build...but I still have to do the body sometime.

Nice buy but I don't really like pistol grip controllers. Shell won't matter much as they will all get smashed up after a few months. Buy some "Fender Mender" to seal up cracks as you will bash the shell up quite badly if it is your 1st time.

Blacklabel21-

That is a weird thing, that people in the US use pistol-grip radios almost exclusively, and you see a lot of stick radios in the UK. I always wondered what was up with that. At first I thought it was a cost thing, since most R/C-related stuff is more expensive in Europe, but I think it must be something deeper than that.

How right you are. I am in UK, but I think it is because most RC RTR cars come with stick radios and whatever you start with either pistol or stick you tend to not change.
