P0456 - Error Code - 2001 GC 4.7L
Hi everyone, hope someone can help me with my latest error code on my '01 GC 4.7L. It started after around a 100 miles drive yesterday. I parked the Jeep, went in front of the car and heard a "tick, tick, tick" sound accompanied by a "hissing sound". I didn't think nothing of it until today, drove around 20 miles, parked the car and got the "maintenance required soon" light. I did the error code retieval process and got error code P0456. Looked up the code and it states this:
P0456 (M) Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (very small leak) My question is: am I safe to drive the GC until Friday (get my pay) or is this an URGENT repair requiring immediate attention? Thanks alot, you folks rock! Happy Jeep'ing |

Re: P0456 - Error Code - 2001 GC 4.7L
a very common cause of this is a loose or defective gas cap.obviously make sure it is tight, but also take off the gas cap and look at the bottom of it.If you see any signs of rust colored stains on it,it is definitely defective.Even if there is no signs of rust, take the gas cap and hit it against the palm of your hand and see if any rust particles come out. There are other things that can cause this, like a cracked or leaking vapor hose, defective purge solenoid,or even the seal around the fuel pump module, just to name a few.But the gas cap is probably the most common, and it is obviously the easiest to repair. If that isn't it then further testing is required and you probably don't have acces to the equipment needed. But the bottom line is,yes you can drive it without causing any problems. The light came on to let you know that there is a leak in the system that is allowing fuel vapors to escape, and obviously the EPA doesn't like that.
