91 Blazer Totally Dead

I was starting my 91 S-10 Blazer when suddenly everything went dead !
No lights, no wipers, no radio. I checked the battery and it's got plenty of spark. I thought the headlights would come on no matter what.Does anyone have any idea what this could be? A co-worker said maybe ignition switch, but if so, would that stop things like headlights and brakelights that dont need the key on to work?

Look by the battery for a section of wire that might be burnt through. I believe that they're called fuseable links... or something like that (my memory isn't what it used to be) It's probably all that's wrong

One night many years ago I came up on a woman whose car had died and had no lights or nothing sitting nearly in the middle of the road and nearly run into her.

The battery cable that has the extra lead on it, I found it cut into.

I finally got it spliced together and the car once again had lights and would start.

That was back in 66, but I suppose it could happen on these newer models.

Could the ignition switch cause this, I don't know, my headlights will come on with it turned off, don't know if it could case this.

Re: 91 Blazer Totally Dead

Thanks for the reply Jerry. I did see a smaller wire coming off the positive cable. I also remember a small wire on the starter. I'll check it in the morning and let you know how it works out.

Your welcome, just thought I would throw in my past experience in, hope it is an easy and cheap repair.

Re: 91 Blazer Totally Dead

I found a smaller wire (8 gauge) coming off the positive terminal on the battery. I followed it to a terminal on the back of the alternator. I tested it with a jumper wire and everything lit up. It cost me $7.00 for the wire and new connecters. Thanks for the help guys, I thought my Blazer was a goner that time.
