Black chrome

I have a red/black 1980 10th anniversary edition my question is about the trim all the chrome around the windshield and t tops is blacked out. It is a transparent black so you can't just shoot it black. I was wondering if anyone knows how to restore this.
Thanks in advance!

Depending on the condition of the chrome you can polish it. If there are a lot of pits and rust spots it has to be re-conditioned and re-dipped which requires it to be re-moved. But, I'm a tad confused,... if it had black paint on it and the paint is flaking off, then it's not chrome. If it has black paint on it because some dork painted it black, then that might make things interesting.

sounds like they may have been chrome painted from the factory and it has chipped off over time, showing the orignal color of the piece before the chrome paint. i would go to auto-zone and buy a can of chrome paint and light grit sand paper...sand it all off and rough it up a little to give the paint something to stick to. then tape it all off and just lay a few coats over it. but if it was me i would do it in black because i like black but im not a big fan of shiny chrome. thats just me though... good luck!!!

Re: Black chrome

Ok, It really is chrome under the black paint... I feel like such an idiot... in places around the back triangle windows, and the frame around the back window at top next to the brake light are painted black over a chrome-type finish... Can I use a razor blade to get it off, or will that screw up the chrome finish????
