Carbon Fiber Body parts

Hey guys, i used to know a website that had all kinds of carbon fiber parts for the del sol. Examples....Front bumper, hood, rear bumper, fenders, sideskirts, and trunk. I have finally decided to shell out the cash and fix the sol....She is in too good of shape to let go. I am going to go ahead and fiber the thing out while i am at it. Might as well shave some of the pounds off her, she is kinda overweight for a honda. But i can't remember the site for anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

Don't see the pics or the parts now, but I'm pretty certain it was either Fiber Image's website (http://www.fiberimages.com) or VIS's website (http://www.visracing.com). I'm fairly certain it was Fiber Images though. They made the trunklid for the Sol if I remember correctly, but VIS made the targa. Both made hoods. Might want to email them and see if they still make the fenders. I know where you're talking about though. I saw CF fenders, lips, hoods, trunklids, and I think someone even had a full CF Mugen copy front bumper.

Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

That is exactly what i am thinking about. I also remember the carbon fiber mugen stlye kit. But it is neither one of those sites. Although, VIS does have a carbon fiber top Thanks for the help so far though. Any other ideas; let me know.

*edit* Just found the site by looking into my g/f's computer. www.importfan.com Its the one i was thinking of. Although, i know they used to offer a CF front bumper, i may have to call them....

Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

Yep, that's the one. I couldn't for the life of me remember which company or website.

Note on the CF targa top though - it's copied from the transtop targa, not the manual targa, so fitting is a slight challenge I believe. The transtop roof was designed differently than the manual so there are differences that could be an issue.

Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

Thanks for that bit of info...I'll have to talk to the company. Tell me what you think of this. Do you think it would be a waste of money to get a CF bumper and lip parts since the OEM ones are plastic? I mean, there can't be that big of a weight difference b/t a stock plastic bumper and a CF bumper right? I can definatley see the gains in a hood, fenders trunk and roof, but i just don't know if its worth the money for the other stuff....

Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

My understanding is that the transtop targa will fit on the usdm sol, but not the other way around. Ill try and see one day when I'm bored :-P

Re: Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

Privatebigandrew:
Personally, I wouldn't buy a CF bumper. I doubt the weight difference is enough to justify $600 or whatever it costs. I'd also stay away from CF fenders. That's just an opinion of aesthetics though for me (plus I don't want to give anyone a reason to steal the car). I don't really care for a car that's half CF in the front and some in the back - it looks like a patchwork Sol that needs paint. If I decide to ever buy CF, it's going to be the hood, maybe the trunk, and possibly a front lip. That's about it for me. If I had a spare targa roof, might get the CF targa as well but that's pretty much it for me.

On a side note, the founder of Team Sol made some custom CF targa's of his own and might have a couple for sale still. Might want to head over to the Team Sol forums in my sig and inquire - I think he's still looking for some people to buy into them though I could be wrong. People have been waiting a year for theirs that paid though, so don't expect too much - he's been really busy and not enough people who ordered paid so other projects are more important to keep his bills paid which is understandable. Or you could always try to find an Ameripol roof which is just as rare but they look cool.

joetrisman:
I think you're right. Been a while since I saw the information about the CF targa on Team Sol's forums and I didn't feel like searching. Huff's CF targas were made for the manual roofs I believe if Privatebigandrew decides to pursue that.

Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

Here's the kicker Plastic Fork. I am going to repaint the car when i get it fixed, even over the CF peices. I am really into the whole sleeper idea. Nothing fancy, just real stealthy. Think of it like this. Repainted gunmetal gray, lowered with H&R cup Kit, Gunmetal Rota circuit 8 wheels, 96-97 front bumper with 92-95 civic lip, Mugen rear lip (if you guys know of any milder rear lips let me know), and maybe some real mild sides. I think it will look nice when i get done. It has been my dream for a while and i think it is finally time.

Re: Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

I gotcha. That's gonna look real nice. I had considered painting over the CF parts as well but I kinda like leaving the hood CF. Kinda lost on a dark colored car though since there's no contrast.

If your car's going to be gunmetal gray, I'd get the gunmetal wheels with a polished lip. I think it'd look really awesome.

As for any type of body kit, I was going to get a front lip (keep the OEM front) and then piece together the rest from other kits for mine but I just recently found out that one of the UK guys overseas found the company that made the original OEM Honda lip kit for the Del Sol and they still have the molds. Said they'd sell a kit for about 700 pounds (that's about $1,350 US). I'm going to save my money for this kit instead. Really looks the best IMO. Here's a few shots of the EDM lip kit that Honda offered as an OEM option:

Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

I definatley like the sides and the rear, but i kinda like the 92-95 lip a little better. Its seems like a good investment though. I will find out this weekend how much all the body work is gonna cost me to fix the old sol, then i will go from there. I will post pics as the progress continues. oh, and by the way, who is huff?

Re: Carbon Fiber Body parts

Sorry. joetrisman is kind of an old face in the Team Sol community and I was kinda directing that toward him. Mr. Huff is the founder of Team Del Sol International and had made his own CF targa tops for the community to purchase.

As for the '92-'95 Civic EX lip, that's definately one of the few lips on my list that look really nice on a Sol. I had considered that myself, but I'm still partial to the Type-R style lip or the OEM Honda lip in that kit. The EX lip ranks third on my list.

Looking forward to seeing your Sol on the road to recovery. Keep us posted.
