93 Cherokee Sport tranny fluid line - HELP please
HELP!! Originally thought the tranny was shot but turns out the tranny fluid lines are rusted through and the fluid runs out when it thins out after warming. Money's tight so the $250 the garage wants to replace these is out of the question plus it will take 3-5 days to order from a dealer and I don't have that kind of time. Advance auto has a flexible tranny line that I am supposed to be able to use in place of the factory, pre-bent pipe. Question is ... the steel pipe that is original to the Jeep runs up towards the radiator but stops and connects to a rubber hose that goes up and into the radiator. If I use this flexible line ... well, guess I should ask first ... CAN I use this flexible line?? If I can ... what do I do about the rubber hose the pipe attaches to ... does the flexible replace BOTH the steel pipe AND the rubber line??
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also ... anyone know where I can get the least expensive power window motor?? All 4 of my windows refuse to move anymore. Each one went out at separate times. Shelly |

Re: 93 Cherokee Sport tranny fluid line - HELP please
you should be able to cut out the bad section of cooler tubing and replace that part with the rubber hose. Fuel line that slips over the cut cooler line should work. It would be either 3/8" or 5/16 id hose I think. Take a piece of the tube with you - same size as the id of the hose..
The parts house might have hose that is for aftermarket oil coolers. Clamp it on tight with hose clamps and allow a long over lap between the hose and the tube to keep it on better under pressure. That should get you going untill you decide to get the solid tubing again. good luck JD Last edited by JDPascal; 04-08-2005 at 10:52 AM. |

Agreed, I performed the same type of repair. Cut the rubber tubing so that you provide the longest piece. Make sure of course, it is in good shape. Get 2 appropriate diameter screw type hose claps and put 2 on each joint you make. Also make sure there are no sharp ends on the tubing you insert into the rubber transmission line hosing.
While you are making this repair I would also check the quick connects into the radiator for leaks. The quick connects are expensive from the dealer but I think there are aftermarket makers now. On the window motors definately Don't! go to the dealer. Do a search on-line they are about 1/2 the price for the same item. The same goes for power lock actuators. I'll check for some websites and get back to you with them. |

WWW.A1Electronic.com has window regulators at 2 for $230
WWW.Allelectronics.com also has electrical components but I'm not sure about the window motors. |

Re: 93 Cherokee Sport tranny fluid line - HELP please
Many thanks Viper ... knew it would be expensive but didn't quite think it would be that high
Something to save for ![]() Just wanted to say again how thankful I am for the assistance ... hubby took the advice and ran with it. The Jeep is now running, no leaks in the tranny line. Did have to change the fuel filter as it was rusted through and had a nice steady drip ... changed that and all is well there. I'm so excited to have my Jeep back!!! That wouldn't have happened without the help of the great people on this board!! Will work on getting those windows working again (at least one anyway) ... and then the next job is the Neutral Safety Switch. Again, thanks to this board I can now get it started (temporarily anyway) by putting it into neutral. This surprises me as this was a recall part I had replaced a few years ago and it's bad already ... oh well ... it runs

I would look into a possible adjustment for that neutral safety switch being only 2 years old. I haven't looked into the circuitry but I think there is sliding linkage adjustment of some sort. Maybe others can comment on that.

Re: 93 Cherokee Sport tranny fluid line - HELP please
Morning Viper ... I will check into that concerning the NSS. Hopefully someone else will know a little more about it ... at this point sliding in to Neutral helps me to get it started but eventually that will stop working ... I'm sure. Will do some research and report back if I find anything else out. As always ... thanks.
