CEL reset switch?
97 Jetta GLX VR6
the check engine light came on yesterday and does not go out. this leads me to think that it is either triggered off of the odometer or a sensor has gone out. i want to get a diagnostic tool for my laptop or pda, but that isn;t going to happen for a while... and the dealer told me it would cost like $50 just to reset this...does anyone know of a manual reset method? i want to reset it and see if it comes back on. if it does, then i know its worth ot to go see the dealer. |

Re: CEL reset switch?
Pepboys, autozone, advanced, kragan... big chains will usually read and reset the code for you for free.

Re: CEL reset switch?
Just wanted to let you know that CELs can also be reset by disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes. If you have a VW factory radio in your car, however, you'll need the factory codes to reset the stereo if you disconnect the battery for an exented period of time like that.....those codes should be written down somewhere in the documentation that came with the car. Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts is your best bet if you don't have the codes.
