tow trip #2 - venting
First of all, I have to get something out...
SON OF A BITCH!!! I'm just venting on this one but I had a super shitty day! I'm on my way to work at about 5:45am going about 65mph or so on this highway. I see traffic in front of me slow a little but nothing too out of the ordinary. All of a sudden, I see a big piece of metal appear in the road right in front of me (the guy in front of me had a truck and went over it... never saw it coming) and so I figured in a split second, well, I guess I have to try to go over it too since there was oncoming traffic in the next lane and no shoulder. I tried to center myself over it best I could in the second I had and WWHHHHHAAAAMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! Ooooh that did not sound good! I knew something was going to go terribly wrong as soon as I hit it. After a few seconds I heard a faint "fffffffff" sound I pull over and what do you know, I'm leaving a huge oil trail. I look under the car and I have a HUGE gaping hole in my oil pan. The guy behind me in a minivan got 2 flat tires, he was on rims by the time he pulled over. He went back to see what the crap it was that we hit but he couldn't find anything in the dark. My only guesses were maybe an old bumper? scrap metal? someone's exhaust? Who knows. I can fit 4 fingers into the hole in the pan though! I should get pictures... Soooooo $170.00 later... I'm still trying to get the stupid oil pan off to replace it. Who the $@&! put the exhaust so damn close to the pan?! How annoying. Most of my tools were stolen when my car was broken into a while back so the whole task is a friggin nightmare. It wouldn't be so hard if I just had the proper tools like I used to!!!! I never made it to work. I gave up. I guess it could've been a lot worse. I mean $170 for a tow and replacing an oil pan is no big deal, it's just the whole pain-in-the-neck factor of it all. I just did an oil change too last week. But still, $170 could have been way better spent on something else. Stupid road debris! Ok, I'm done now.... Thanks. |

That hurts. At least it's something you can repair on your own.

hey it could've been worse - you could've lost control and crashed, you could've had it damage ur axle or engine, could've messed up the gas tank, all sorta stuff
still sucks though - people need to learn to keep stuff so it doesn't fall on the road

Re: tow trip #2 - venting
^ yeah, I still wouldve rather had just the flat tires though!
I got a flatbed tow truck this time. She still looked pretty sitting up there! Is it weird that I get sentimental about my car? lol I should replace my exhaust as long as everything is taken apart. hmmm....

Re: tow trip #2 - venting
Damn. My friend had something like that happen before. Someone rolled a huge tractor trailor tire and rim out in the middle of a road and left it there. My friend speeds everywhere he goes so he didn't even see it until he was right up on it. Shit bent the front of his frame, destroyed his radiator and killed his bumper. I was driving around with some other friends at the time and we drove by when the cop was already there. He said the cop was trying to blame him for it
Like he really wanted to damage his car on purpose or something. At least it happened before he got his turbo kit on there or else he would have had to add an intercooler onto the list of things to fix. Aren't people supposed to call the cops if something flies off their car, so someone can come and clean it up before someone gets their car damaged?

Re: tow trip #2 - venting
i had to replace my oil pan not too long ago because it got smacked on the shitty roads we have here... the oil pickup, oil pan, transmission housing got fucked up.
had to snag the oil pickup and oil pan off my new motor to get my daily driver back up and running... only took 2 hours to fix the oil pan but the transmission housing is still leaking a bit. and i will replace that later
