cv boots

I read in another old thread that when there is a clicking noise when you turn that it is possible that you just need to replace the boot on the cv joint. Is that true cause that seems like quite a problem for just a little rubber boot to cause just from a rip. I ask cause my 3000gt is doing it and when I looked at it the boot has ripped so Im curious if I could get so lucky as to just have to replace the boot itself?

Your CV joints are gone. Ripped boots do not cause this noise on their own, but a ripped boot dramatically accelerates CV joint wear because all the grease gets flung out and dirt gets in which wears a joint out quickly.
IMHO install a new or rebuilt halfshaft. This replaces both ineer and outer joints in one fairly easy to install unit.

Re: cv boots

If you got the click, you need to replace the CV joint. It starts with a click usually turning in one direction--then it gets worse. If you caught it before the click you might be able to just change the boot but you will do almost as much work as just installing a shaft. If your strapped for cash, you might be able to just install a split boot(less labor) and live with the click until it gets worse.
