2 Questions
I havn't been here in awhile but I finally got my Nova I was looking for !
It's a 71 nova with a v8 small block, not sure the exact size of the engine though, pretty sure it isn't stock. It has a 4spd converted from an automatic. Awesome car, only thing I don't like about it is a owner before me put in a sunroof , not something I'm really into personally. Needs some interior work etc but a pretty solid car that I found. Been working on various things.Anway, to my questions: Right now it has 4 drumb brakes. Walking around in the local pick a part my father and I found a 77 nova with power breaks. Would it be possible to get that power brake cylinder and rig it up to mine so I have power breaks? Him and I aren't sure if it is even possible to use power breaks on a car that has 4 drumbs. Any help on this is appreciated. Another is we also found an airconditioning unit on that 77 nova. Was wondering if that was possible to take and convert on mine too. Although mine didn't come with air conditioning so I kinda got the feeling that is a "no" to my question but I figure someone here might have done something like that to theirs. Once I get some cash I'm going to relpace the floor pans. Not that they are rusty now but they were at one time and are pretty pitted by the person who had cleaned them out and it left one spot on the floor pan pretty thin to the point I don't want someone putting their weight on it and it turns my car into something from the flintstones. The front driver side fender is from a 68-69 nova and there isn't really a difference except that the side marker light is possitioned differently, if anyone here has a 70-74 front driver side fender in good condition and would like to trade please post. One other thing that really bugs me is the seats in there now are from a camero. Any ideas on where to get a nova bench seat or bucket seats? I been resorting to running around pick a parts and the Pomona car fair for them. Sorry for the long post guys thnx for reading though!! SOOOOOOooOo excited I finally got my car. |

To help you get started on this project; starting with the brakes, if it where me I would also go with power brakes, but would change out the fronts to disc brakes. I will include a list of donor cars that will fit your Nova. The swap is pretty easy to do. As for the power booster, you probably can use the later model, but you also will need the master cylinder and the porportioning valve and lines. As for the air, Iwould recommened an aftermarket set-up that mounts under your dash, not to say that you couldn't add the factory set-up, but it would have to be from a 71-72 like yours to get all the parts, hoses, lines, fittings, etc. Also all the ducting and outlets for the dash. I don't think the hassle is worth it. And if you don't like the sunroof, it can be removed and filled in to stock condition with the right body man. I did it to my 68 Chevelle. Well good luck with you project.
Donor Cars: All Gm products from 69 to 72 i.e. Buick; Century, Skylark, Special, GS and a few to 74Chevrolet; 69 Camaro 69-72 Chevelle, El Camino, Malibu 69-74 Chevy II, Nova, Concourse Oldsmobile; 69-72 Cutlass, F85, 442, Vista Cruiser 73-74 Omega Pontiac 69 Firebird, 69-72 Grand Prix, GTO, Lemans, Tempest, Grand Am 71-74 Phoenix, Ventura GMC 60-74 Sprint, Cabalello Hope this helps! |
