HELP! How do I change the rear main seal?

I have a 2001 BMW X5 4.4 and the rear main seal is dripping.
Has anyone replaced this seal w/out taking the car to a dealership?
I am a pretty good mechanic and have performed this on other vehicles...not just the bummer!!
