87-81 supercharger swap?
How difficult would it be to swap a supercharger from a '87 302 to a '81 302? Basically I have a s/c off of a '87 302 and was wondering what kind of mods i would have to do to the '81 engine for it to work properly?

What car did the '81 engine come out of? Are there any mods like better pistons and/or rods? In general an '81 302 (not sure if there was a 302 in '81) would be less stout than an '87 Mustang 302HO engine. The only thing is the CR would no doubt be lower. The heads won't flow as much either compared to an '87 302HO.

Re: 87-81 supercharger swap?
Both cars were mustang fastbacks. They both have the stock 5.0 302's. Only the '87 was modded with a s/c and basically rebuilt. My main question i guess would be that the '87 was fuel injection and the '81 is a carbuerated car. What would i have to do to get all the linkage to work, or would it even work at all.
Is it more trouble than its worth? |

An '81 Mustang V8 may not be 5.0L, it may be 4.2L. Either way it is not built to take the tourcher of a supercharger. The stock '81 CR would work in your favor because it is only 8.5:1. Everything on that motor is light duty. The motor out of the '87 is an HO with stonger internals and better head gaskets. Do yourself a fovor and build a motor for the supercharger application, you will be happy with the results.
