Question 99 Crown VIC Haunted(Lights come on by themselves)

The interior lights and keyless entry light on the drivers door will come on by themselves even when the key is off. They stay on for a few minutes and then shut off. The interior light even fades down like normal. A few mionutes later it will do this again.
If the headlights are in Auto mode, they will come on and so do the tail lights. If in Manual Off position they do not come on when this happens.
I removed the 2 interior lights(Dome and Drivers floorboard) and leave the headlights off. even with doing this, it will run the battery down in 2 days if the car is not cranked up. I have replaced the Lighting Control Module and it did not help. A friend thought it was a door switch, but that does not explain why the headlights would come on, when they are in Auto mode, since the car does not turn on the headlights automatically under normal conditions when we open the door, only when you crank the car.
Any ideas what is causing this?

First thing that comes to mind is a short in the wiring. Where or what from there is beyond me. What i think you ought to do is phone around and inquire as to what shops in your area work on such difficulties and see if you can't talk to the technician themselves to see what their thoughts are on it.

Does this vehicle have an alarm or remote starter installed? If so, someone botched the install.

I've got the same ghost

I am willing to bet that you have the keypad combination unit. When this starts to go bad, it will do this. Have the pad replaced and you'll probably be exorcised.

It does have a keypad on the driver's door. It lights up at the same time the interior lights come on.Ihave discovered that the 5/6 button does not work.

Same thing happened to my '99 Vic, 5/6 button and all. Thought that would be it.

Our 2000 GM did the same thing, it has a leak in it so when it gets wet the lights would go on and off from shorting out. You can disconnect it by removing the drivers side door panel and unplugging the harness that attaches it to the remote brain box and still have the remote fob working.
