Short shifters, what's the deal?

Is there any real difference between an off brand short shifter, like APC or spectre (autozone brand) and the DC/skunk2 name brand shifters that are waaaayyyyy more expensive? I mean, I can see the difference with the headers (how the header is coated, what it's made from, etc.. ), but a short shifter just seems kinda.. I dunno.. simple.. A curved stick with a lump in the middle and a ball bearing at the end, kinda universal if you ask me. Anyway, I remember reading about this a few weeks ago, but couldn't find the thread in the search and if I recall the guy never got an intelligible answer anyway. Any reasonable input is appreciated, thanks guys (and girls)

as far as i know, they are universal.....the only advantage to the "name brand" ones would be better bushings or some shit....who knows (not me!)
and i wouldnt go with aluminum myself.... (heat + alum. == broken)
my brother said his friend made his own with a stock shifter. cut and weld.

honestly....i spent 80 on a dc short shifter...and i sorta regret it..i mean yeah the polished aluminum looks cool with dc sports writtren down the side but a regular no name would probably do the same thing.......

this was briught up not to long ago.

the generic ones are bent different than name brand. name brand are bent to actually shorten the throw.

would the bend really matter? If I recall the only real difference is going to be the length from the metal bulb down. A longer distance there would be the thing that reduces the travel and shorten the throw.

I'm going to compare the spectre one from autozone to stock, and as long as it's longer, I'm going to keep it. if it's the same though, I'll be really pissed because I'll have just spent an hour under my car for nothing.

i've heard the cheap ones (autozone) will break right were the threads start for your shift knob to go on at if you shift realy hard it will snap right there. thats just what i've heard. but for $40 i would try the cheap ones. it can't hurt to try something once.

i think difference is that one is durable than the other. non brand name always = crap. from what i heard, you actually can feel a difference if you happen to have a B&M shifter which is known to be the best shifter out there.

I have 20$ autozone special and have had it for 6 months now.
never had a problem of any sort and I dont always drive softly.

IF I do have a problem ill let you know but so far I dont see any diffrence.

Oh and yeah its got nothing to do with the bent in the shaft above the ball, its got everything to do with the length of the shaft under the ball.

What about Neuspeed, they claim to be the first on the market with the best quality, I read a review and all purchasers gave it perfect scores, also they say theres no problem in 5th or reverse touching the underworkings.

Sad to say, but my APC short shifter works quite well. When I installed it (which was a BITCH at night, with my car on ramps and idiot friends running around), I definitely noticed a decrease in the length of shift throw. I had to drive it around for a bit to get used to it.

i think best is FACTORY

if you can get a integra shifter and make it work on your civic it work awsome man and it factory so you dun have to worry about breaking it and from what i know on the integra is a short shifter already it on my 92 civic with my LS swap so it works wonders .... im not sure if it will work for the factory shift linkage ... so you gotta ask on that one but that a idea if you guys didnt know

HONDA-FREAK
