93 Dodge Shadow Starting Problems

1993 Dodge Shadow that has had an intermittent problem starting. It has been in the shop several times. It has had it's fuel pump changed, the connector to the fuel pump replaced, heat sensor replaced, iginition replaced, new battery, I could go on. It got repaired the beginning of March, they replaced the heat sensor and we thought it fixed the problem. The car has been running great ... the check engine light does come on after the car has run for a long time ... but that was occuring before the latest repair. Went out this morning to start the car and it won't start ... you can hear the fuel pump engaging ... you can smell the gas ... it will turnover ... but does not engage to start. At one point the guy at the repair shop thought it might be that part that control's the computer functions, but then said no and we didn't replace it. This is driving me insane, I love the little car, but I am one thought short of pushing it off a steep cliff. Any ideas? Oh, it is an automatic.

1993 Dodge Shadow Not Starting

Okay, I went out and did the code thing again and got the right numbers this time and found the code list for Dodge on www.allpar.com/vis/80s-codes.html

The codes seem to make sense, they were ... 12, 51, 32, 22

12 Batter or computer recently disconnected
51 Oxygen sensor stuck at lean position .....
32 EGR gases not working - check vacuum, valve
22 Coolant sensor signal out of range

Now I am calling AAA and taking it to the mechanic and I'll share the info, he may laugh at me since I am an old woman.

Re: 93 Dodge Shadow Starting Problems

Your Code 32: means the EGR valve is not working and I'd bet the code 51 (running lean) is related to that problem. The valve resurculates exhaust gases back into the intake to burn cleaner. It reduces NOX emissions mainly. It relies on a vacuum hose to move a spring loaded valve. It should only be operating at high engine rpms, but sometimes, these valves can stick open causing idle problems. On older cars, the vacuum hose can be dry rotted.

Help me

Hello all
Ive got a problem with my 1993 dodge shadow. It wont start. I bought a circut tester and found that there was no spark or even power to the distributer or coil. After fooling around with it for a while i found that there was power as long as the ground cable was not connected to the battery. The car is being used for short track racing at sunsetspeedway in barrie ontario Canada and i have 30 days to get it started.

Please Please help

Jeff Thomas

Re: 93 Dodge Shadow Starting Problems

sounds like either the battery cables are on the wrong posts or you have
a dead short. bactrack your wires and see if you can find it. its hard to diagnose stuff over the internet.
my racing season starts on the 8th of april.
