Tad's got himself a VR4!

Well I went and picked up the car tonight (pics tomorrow when the sun and I get up). There are a few problems though, the wheels need allignment badly, the radio needs a code already since the car was left to sit around for a while lol anyone know somone at a dealership? The vin is JA3AN74K9SY005159 incase anyone knows who to talk to to get the code, I remember getting it here when I first arrived at AF. The bigest problem is that there is a boost leak somwhere on the left side that I didn't notice the first time around, it seems to run a bit rich and the boost gauge is negative till it hits big boost and then it spikes right up to above 14... I'm going to use a spray bottle of watter and a little soap to try to find the leak, if any of you have experience with boost leaks leave some of your pearls of wisdom.

Re: Tad's got himself a VR4!

I had to go 9k into debt to myself lol, I want to pay back the money I borrowed out of my investments. What about my boost problem though? Should it be straight forward and simple or is it likely that theres a huge rock lodged in the intercooler lol?

Re: Tad's got himself a VR4!

Do you have an air compressor, is so pull a vacume line off a wastegate and hook it to your compressor, then see where the leak is coming from.

Re: Tad's got himself a VR4!

Very nice. As far as the boost gauge, the stock one is a POS, I haven't looked at mine in months. For the boost leak, check out www.stealth316.com, he has a part on there with instructions on how to build 3 or 4 different pressure testers...build the one you feel most comfortable with (or buy one on 3si, as someone is always making and selling them) hook it up to a compressor and check for leaks. I made mine for under $9, and it is the easiest way.

3si also has a bunch of threads, if you do a little searching, that give alot of good tips for your first time pressure testing.
(my first time, I actually had the car parked at a point where both the intake and exhaust valves were open, so it didn't hold any pressure, it all escaped out the exhaust) So I backed up the car, parked it again, this time, my pressure tester shot out of the intake at 7-10psi because I didn't follow the directions on making it exactly the same, and mine was a bit small. So yeah, it shot across the garage and almost knocked my friend over...pretty funny

Re: Tad's got himself a VR4!

Thanks guys! The NA has a lot of the charms of the VR4, I havent realy been willing to wind it up all the way yet because of the boost leak (paranoid somthings gonna pop off and leave me stranded lol). The most fun thing about the VR4 is that you can play with the active areo and turn it on and off, makes people behind you befuzled though, I can just imagine them saying somthing like "wtf? thats not a porsche!" The power seats are great too, the NA I had didn't have them, I like the lumbar and side adjustments.

Your ride looks awesome. Congrats on the VR4. Did you ever post about how many miles it has?
