Catalitic converter
Have a question about my cat. I want to take it off but the bolts are stuck, and I don't know what to use to get them loose. I am using air tools and still can't break them loose any ideas on what to do. I am going to put on a performance cat or just straight it, I don't have to pass emissions so it's not a problem.

Re: Catalitic converter
If you're going to weld a straight pipe, you might as well just cut the pipe... If you want to do a bolt-up job, just get a lot of WD-40 and keep using your air tools to take the bolts off. Eventually it should come off. If it doesn't, spray it as much as you can with the WD-40...

You can also try heating the nut up tell it gets red hot, then use the impact.

Re: Catalitic converter
Even a propane torch can help tremendously on rusted bolts. I wouldnt go red hot, but an oxy/acetalene setup would be much faster and more effective. I like to heat it up a bit, whack it a couple times with The Punisher, heat it up, let it cool, etc. The heat cycling and vibration will loosen it eventually. And air tools help tremendously, if they have good power. Otherwise a long breaker bar with the jack handle pipe slid over it will suffice.

Re: Catalitic converter
Or as a last resort... cut an X in the head of the bolt and twist it off... it worked on some old leaf springs I had to replace years ago!!!
Before I got my "high flow" cat an old neighbor told me to take the cat off and run a broom handle through the screen inside to open it up. As for the sound... I didn't notice any difference..

Re: Catalitic converter
Don't worry about the sound, man. It's a DSM, so of course it's gonna sound good...

K i succefully got the cat off, and then knocked everything out of it, and it sounds the same. I can't just leave it seperate because it is way to loud, so now I found out that the cat wasn't the problem with sound. Where is somewhere I can get a good muffler to replace the stock one, and that will sound good. I wan't something that is a little deeper though, nothing to ricey. Any ideas.

Re: Catalitic converter
I would say get a whole exhaust system. that way it will sound awesome, it wont look ricey, and you will have a huge power increase. if you just want cheap, then go buy some 30 dollar thing on ebay, but if you want quality look elsewhere, there are places all over the internet. check out the vfaq

Re: Catalitic converter
If I remember correctly there is one or two resonators between the cat and muffler... those dampen the sound...
3 words... cat-back-exhaust
