5.3L gas milage

What kind of gas milage does a stock 1500 silverado ext. cab with a 5.3L engine get in the city and on the highway?
Thanks

In my '03 Silverado 1500 ext. cab short bed, I get just under 15 in the city and about 18 and a half on the highway. I am installing K & N FIPK gen 2 this weekend. I'll let you know how much that helps.

Re: 5.3L gas milage

2004 5.3 with 13000 miles, gibson exhaust, and modified air intake, MAF, and filter box gets consistent 20-21 on the highway, averages 17-19 overall which includes the occasional 3 mile trip towing the boat to the ramp.

Stock 5.3

My stock 5.3 averages about 18 mpg with a 80 mile daily commute and limited city driving.

I just installed a K&N FIPK gen II and am having the muffler replaced with a Flowmaster 52. I'll post back mileage after the mods are done.

that doesn't sound that bad, that's about what i get with my blazer now, which i'm gonna sell, and buy a '02 or '03 silverado. i would be interested to see how a k&n air intake affects the gas milage. please post how the gas milage changes after this modification.

I have an '01 with the 5.3 and have installed a K&N FIPK and removed the MAF screen. Highway mileage instantly bumped up to right around 20 mpg. Just installed a Gibson stainless sideswept catback dual exhaust and am now getting between 21-22 mpg on the highway.

I'd guess what you're doing wrong is keeping the go pedal too close to the floor. Drive 'er easy for a tank and see how you do. You're getting less than I do on my 350!

Thanks
