There is no draft, but....

I spoke with an Army Nat'l Guard recruiter the other day, he said that the re-enlistment bonus for certain Army personnel is $15000, and the Army is now taking people as old as 40 for initial entry (old age limit was 34) and with prior service, you can re-enter the Army at up to 60 (yes, sixty) years old.

Enlistment bonuses for Infantry, truck driving and other specialties are 15K, and even cooks (!) get 10K for signing up.

Sign of the times?

I find that a bit hard to believe. I went to goarmy.com to verify...all I found was that if you are a dentist over 47 years of age you can apply for a waiver to age restrictions. 60?...hard to swallow.

Believe what you want; for verification please go speak to an Army Nat'l Guard recruiter.

Re: There is no draft, but....

As I've stated twice now, I spoke directly to a recruiter for this information. Going to "goarmy.com" twice isn't speaking to a recruiter, so you've failed to verify or not verify the information I put on the site.

Re: There is no draft, but....

Fred, as anyone who has ever served in the military, we all know the recruiters arent the most "honest" individuals when it comes to getting info. I am sure the goarmy website would have the correct info on it. why is it hard to believe that maybe your recruiter was ill-informed?

who knows, maybe both are wrong?

I just talked to the local recruiter - no sixty year olds.

Sorry, using the army for a retirement job isn't going to work.

Re: There is no draft, but....

I'd be the first to agree that recruiters aren't forthcoming with the correct info (aka, they lie)

But this an older guy speaking to several older men whose children are grown, so there was no reason for him to try to persuade anyone.

And personally, I don't believe everything I see on the internet.

Why wouldn't you believe the information given to you on a nationally known and sponsered site by the U.S. Army. And you will believe an Army recruiter who probably has the worst reputation for lying? Either way it's besides the point since Yogs already talked to a recruiter.
