standard 93 Escort what should i do to the engine

I wanted to know what I should do to my escort I was thinking a bout a swap what will fit in it and what are some cheap engine mods that give alot of power for a little money.

A 2.0 spi swap from a 3rd generation escort ('97+) is an easy swap and just about the best "bang for the buck".
