alarm keeps going off & bug won't start

My 98 bug has been sitting out for the past 6 months (winter in Alaska). Went to start it up and battery was dead, jumped it and the alarm goes off and will not let the car start. Took the battery out of the car and hooked it up to a charger. When it was fully charged, replaced it and the alarm started again. It seems as if the alarm was engaged, how do I deactivate it? I can't seem to find any info on vw alarm systems, and did not recieve any info when purchasing it used. Any help would be great!!

Turn the key in the driver's door lock to the unlock position.

In the new beetles when the battery goes dead you have to take it to the dealership to get the computer reprogrammed. Sorry that's the way it is. It is a stupid design and their way of making more money, expect the bill to be high. Atleast you don't have to replace the battery(it's about $250 for that)
