Re: EGR trouble code, where is it??

The problem with the ERG valve after reading your description of the problem is that the valve is not closing, allowing exhaust back into the intake at idle, effectively causing a massive vacuum leak. Usually the problem is that the plunger is crudded up to the point it cannot seal completely when it drops shut. It doesn't fully seat and leaks. The EGR is on top of the motor, right near the throttle body on your year, it is a round metal item sticing up and toward the firewall of the engine compartment. I wish I had one around here to take a pic for you, but mine is a different design. If you look up the part on AutoZone's site, I think they have a component location that will show you where it is on your car. Once you have found it, you might just be able to take it off (real easy) and clean the seat so it works correctly. I would try that first before replacing it.

Re: EGR trouble code, where is it??

hey jeff, cool animation on your posts. I agree with you that the EGR could just have a piece of carbon in it and cleaning it will fix the problem. Also check the passages in the Throttle body and intake for carbon, as a restricted passage will trip an EGR code as well.
