Hate to burst your bubble man, but most dealerships require the person that is actually going to be test driving the car to be 21 for insurance purposes. BUT, if your dad can test drive drive it, you could switch out and then switch back again before taking it back. what they don't know won't hurt them.

Depends on if the dealer is cool or not. Technically, you have to be 18 to do a test drive. When I was 17 and 11 months, the salesman wouldn't let it happen. But then I came back in a few days, and another guy let me test drive it without even asking my age. So it kinda depends who you're dealin with. Goodluck tho!

Re: will they let a 17yr old test drive a new vette with his dad?
weird, because the dealership i worked at didnt let ANYONE test drive a vette. the premis was that if you were gonna buy a vette, then you were gonna buy a vette, people that wanted to test drive were usually 17 year olds who just put miles on them.

Buy it and you can drive it all you want. If you can't afford it and have no intention of buying it...............why are we having this conversation??

If your dad has bought car(s) from this particular dealer, "his" salesman should do anything he wants, even deliver the "test" 'Vette to your house!
If not, they might not let your dad drive it, unless he rents a Viper, Mercedes SL or 911 to arrive at the Chevy dealer's! |

OK, here's the trick. First, it's best to go to a bigger dealership because they usually have a vette dedicated for test drives. The smaller dealerships can't afford to do that since most people buying a new vette want one with 0 miles. Go to the dealership in a nice car. If your folks don't have a nice car, borrow one from a friend, but make sure you are driving the car when you show up. Don't go there in an econo-box. Have your dad dress nicely, but you don't have to. Actually, the crappier you dress, the better. Hell, you could go there in ripped jeans and barefoot and it would be fine. That way, you look like a spoiled brat kid with a rich dad who lets you do what you want. Look for a younger salesman and go to him. Don't wait for someone to come to you. Have your dad do the talking. Tell him to say he is looking at buying a new car for you as a present. Salesmen eat that up cuz rich parents buying cars for their kids are usually the easiest sell. Tell the salesman that you just got done test driving a 350Z and really liked it, but you would really like to see if you like the vette better. Now the pressure's on. The salesman will go with you, but you can still have fun. Don't be afraid to floor it. Who drives a vette without seeing how it performs? I guarantee you the salesman has done it. Slam the gas and have some fun. When your done, tell him that you still have a couple more cars to look at and you'll get back to him. Let me know how it goes!

The problem with this question is that you want to test drive a 2 seater with your Dad. When my Dad was constantly checking out the new NSX (granted this was a while ago) the dealers were happy to take him out in it, but I found myself wondering what dealership coffee really tastes like in order to pass the time by myself. Nothing like a 13 year old sitting alone in a dealership and since I was too young to be throwing money at anything, who could really care what I was doing there. They made sure to have their big driver guy go out and show Dad what they could really do. So there's the math. Salesman, Dad, and no more room for you. Now I recently drove a G35 coupe around and was pretty surprised to get the key with my girlfriend and a little autonomy, but a G35 is not a Corvette. In the end you are working with a few variables. 1: a high performance high demand automobile. 2: Not enough room for you, Dad and the dealer. 3: Every individual dealer is different. 4: You're 17 for shit's sake! Take Jepster's advice, probably the best shot you got. Practice you're acting in the mirror first though. Hey it just might work. In the meantime,... I'm 28,... do you think they'd let me drive one? Stick not an auto.
