305 Engine
I just got a 1985 GMC Jimmy, same as K5 Blazer. It has a 305 Engine, original with 6000 miles on a rebuild. I always thought the 350 was a good one, but dont know alot about this one. Is this a good engine that is powerful? How does it compare to the 350? What modifications can be done to it to increase power? Thanks

Re: 305 Engine
hello stauter. i dont know much about jimmy's or blazer's. but ive got a 305 in my 89 camaro. people will tell you its a horrible engine, which thats an opinion thing. ive been in cars with 305 with a bunch of mods and they can really haul. im not sure what they offer as far as after market mods for your vehicle, but in general the 305 has plenty of options. of course intake and exhaust should be first, get a highflow air filter, maybe k & n, then a less restrictive exhaust, then intake manifold, heads maybe cam. the options are there. good luck.
EDIT: and as far as comparing it to the 350. i wouldn't compare it. it would lose in most aspects. the 350 has tons of mod options and besides theres no replacement for displacement

Re: 305 Engine
From a stand point of stock horsepower the 350 would win hands down. My dad has an 87 silverado with the 305 and it is a super reliable engine. he has driven it for two years and only chnaged the oil and put gas in it. They may not be the fastest but they are a good engine none the less. I can't really think of any problems with them that would make them undesirable. They actually have more power than you would think they would. Drive it a little before you do anything. It may suit your needs as is. Good Luck
