Swap

What are some good and relatively cheap engine swaps for an 02 Cavalier with a 2.2L Eco?

You're best sticking wih the EcoTec unless you plan to go crazy. It's a nice light engine and there are more and more tuning products for it everyday! depends on what you want to do with the car etc etc!

I've got a friend with a 95 Accord with an H22 dropped in it. No other mods except a cool air intake. And he said I would never be able to beat him. So I'm trying to prove him wrong.
Would I have to do any body work to drop in a supercharged 3.8? Or just some re-enforced engine mounts?

complete custom mounts all round. The mount points are completely different. Poss relocate battery to trunk, pcm, wiring loom etc!

Although just putting forced induction on your motor up to about 7psi with stock internals would beat him! He's probably running about 175-180 hp! with 7psi you could hit 190! And you car weighs less!

some w-41 were 190hp but the 2.3 weren't the most reliable motors and the blocks were weak which is why they reduced the bore and increased the stoke for the LD9 making it MUCH stronger.

Ok I understand mounts and wiring loom, but what is pcm?
Could I beat him without turbo? I mean if I got a gasket match, intake, intake mani, headers and cat back. Would that do the job?

if you have little cash flow you'll want to strip your interior. a turbo would help you beat him but will run about $2500-$3000 depending on what you want powerwise. but can be more. intake, exhaust. yeah you'll get some more power, the accord weight more anyhow so you don't need to match his power but if you did you'd win! unless he has manual and you auto! The PCM is the engine management system, computer, engine controld module and stands for Powertrain Control Module. What do you mean by gasket match? do you mean match porting?

We both have manuals. From my understanding a gasket match is similar to port and polish but not as extreme. They say it generally adds 15-20hp. So is a PCM like an ECU or are they different?

They are the same thing but different car mfg call them different things for different years. b4 95 they were ECM but then became PCMs. I think you mean match porting which is where the intake port and manifold are made to be as seamless as possible so it doesn't disrupt the airflow. The same for the exhaust side. the intake port is usually a little smaller than the appropriate manifold.

What are some possibel draw backs to port matching. I mean is it going to make my car suck gas or are there no real draw backs? Does it really matter if I get a crate engine or just swap for a used?

it will do nothing but good things! It just smooths the intake flow!

Re: Swap

Some people i have talked to saying the polishing part dosn't really help them out alot. With an unsmooth bore the disturbance in the air allows for a better mixture. But there has been no actualy finding dyno wise on either or. But porting does make a difference.
