interior lights staying OFF, not On.

Hello,

I have just replaced a rear tail light, two of the three third brake lights, and the battery. Now when we open the doors the interior lights do not go on. If I use the remote to unlock the doors, then the interior lights will come on. I have read lots on the lights staying on, but nothing on them staying off.

I have a 99 windstar with a 3.8l.
