1970 455 Riviera?
I was looking through autotrader and i came acrost a 1970 Riviera with a 455 motor in it and i was wondering if this car has a lot of potential in the 1/4 mile. I was told that theyre very heavy (4000 lbs?) and not too fast stock (mid 15's?), but with that big block could i get enough power to make this into a 12 sec. car without spending too much? And about how much would it cost if i could do most of the work myself?
Oh and is the 455 basicaly a 454? and could you tell me what hp/lb-ft this motor makes? Thanks. Last edited by flip888; 03-06-2005 at 08:46 AM. |

Nope,back in those day's each manufacture were engine specific.In 1970,olds had there own style of 455,Buick's 455 was different,Pontiac's 455 was different and Chevy's 454 was different. Buick offered 3 different HP ratings in the 1970 455,350HP,360HP and 370HP. Engine ID code for a 70 455 is SR for a 455 350HP , SS for a 455 360HP and SF for a 455 370HP and they all had 510 FT lbs of torque @ 2,800 RPM ~Larry~

Re: 1970 455 Riviera?
So it would be pretty hard/expensive to find performance mods for these?
what other cars did the 500 or 472 engine come in? |
