Re: Gears?

GU2 AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO

GU4 AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO

GU5 AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO

GU6 AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO

Check your door sticker for one of these RPO codes.

Re: Gears?

As mentioned...check your door for the RPO codes.

Locate the one starting with GU_ and reference the list posted above.

Re: Gears?

I looked on the door and it did not say anything like that.

There were only specifications about tire size etc. Is there any other way to find this information? Thanks.

Re: Gears?

Drivers door...look for this sticker.

Then locate the GU_ RPO code.

Re: Gears?

Not all of them came with the rpo codes on the door. On my door, in that same location as the above picture, I have a decal notifying me of how much to inflate my tires. My rpo codes list in in my glovebox.

Re: Gears?

Thanks.

I just checked and it was GU6.

It sure doesnt feel like 3.42's though. To get a decent acceleration I have to get the RPM all the way to 3000-3500. My house's family car (06 Trailblazer V6 4.2inline) has 3.42's too and with much lower RPM, it gets better acceleration?

Is this normal in my car? Is there something else affecting this?

Thanks.

Re: Gears?

The trans gearing might be lower on the trailblazer. It also has a lot more power than your firebird.

EDIT: nope I was wrong. Same exact gearing on both the firebird and the TB. Must just be the power difference. firebird 200 HP 225TQ TB 291HP 277TQ

Uh, look again, autos didn't come with the 3.42's. The highest the autos came with were the 3.23's. Only the M6 was available with the 3.42 rear-end ratio.

3.42's were an option.

Re: Gears?

4th gen v6's mostly had 3.08's. 2.73's were mainly for a4 v8's, 3.23's for auto v8's, and 3.42's for m6 v8's. Everyone I know around here who has a 98+ v6, has 3.08's. Maybe it's just coincidence?
