engine change

Where I live, there is a local drag strip that people are allowed to race on at night without it being illegal. There is this car there that has really been making me mad about the way he brags about his car and always wants to race for titles but he's never actually raced, he drives a Supra and claims to have turbo but i don't think he actually does cause there is no blow off valves or anything. I have this engine in my garage at home...Its a 3.0 or something like that, if i rebuilt it with high performance parts and put turbo in it and threw it into my 2002 Cavalier...would i be able to run with the supra?

Re: engine change

I think you are a noob for asking that question... 1) There is now 3.0 GM made to fit into a cavalier that i can recall... 2) For the amount of money its going to take you to drop a different engine like ford or w/e... you'd be better off buying somthing will more ballz and alot safer at higher speeds than your car... I think you need to grow up and realize you should think before you post next time and do a little more reaserch... good day!

Re: engine change

its a supra,it probably has a turbo. not every turbo car has a blow-off valve(like seen on f & f).you wont here that turbo untill it spools up.anyway, exactly what kind of engine is this 3.0?

yeh im a noob n stuff but i got a 2002 cavalier too and i was wondering pretty much the same thing .... is it possible(regardless of the money needed) to fit a 3.1L h.o. engine from a baretta or an older z24 into a 2002 cavalier?
another thing too in my car the motor doesnt say ecotec on it anywheres does that mean it isnt one or just was never called that att he time my car was made because i see alot of 2002 cavaliers that have ecotec engines but mine doesnt tell me anywhere that it is one or not althought on the air intake it does say 2200 2.2L it would be a big help if someone could explain this to me

Re: engine change

You could boost your own motor and keep up with a supra. It depends on if there are any mods on the supra. A 3 litre supra motor can run up to 1000hp with the right amount of cash invested (a lot) so then you have little chance. He has the advantage of being RWD as opposed to your FWD. A turbo kit and some internal work on your motor could see you putting out about 250bhp or more depending on how much money you want to spend and how much disregard you will have for your motor in order to make this guy look stupid and there is always nitrous if you are that set to beat him. I wouldn't recommend it though because who knows what he has done to his car. You should mod for yourself. Your best bet is to go to another track!!!

Not to Mention Edelbrock, Wizards of Nos (English co), Holley, Nitrous Works, Berg Works, Nitrous Oxide Systems etc etc.

You may have used N2O without knowing so at the Dentist.

Blame Jerry Bruckheimer and his woefully inaccurate pair of Films featuring a certain Pretty Boy Paul Walker. At least no-one calls it 'Nitro' anymore, a vastly more unstable chemical. Fun in glass bottle if you hurl them off of car parks though (don't try this at home) I'm also not telling how to make it. Although if you've seen fight club!?!

Re: engine change

if your intake sasy 2200 2.2L, then thats the engine you have, its 115HP and not a very good engine to start moding. It takes alot of upgrades and money to mod that engine into anything resepctable. Most people just give up and buy a better engine or car.

Re: engine change

^ very true.. but that best part is when people seeing you mod a 2.2 and after all the time and money you spend, the outcome it has. I don't expect much from mine since its my first car, and i will try to keep it as long as possible. Most i will do is probably run Nitrous for any type of boost application next summer in it..

Besides the fact that there is infinitely more stuff available for the 2.2 ecotec then the 2.4. The 2.2 Ecotec is the motor that is in Turbo form in the Vauxhall Vx220 Turbo and VXR220 and the Opel Speedster Turbo (same car) This is however a re-bodied Lotus Elise and they are made on the same production line by the same workers(in England)!!!! Bitchin little sportster. The Gm product is actually better then the Lotus one if talking in terms of 'fun-to-drive'!!!

If you read the friggin post you would have seen that the VX220, a european car which is the same as a Lotus Elise has an EcoTec! That was the point it is a sports car with an Eco Tec!!!!!!! 220hp from factory! Lotus is not under Toyota. What you read was that the motot in the Federal Elise so that it could be sold in the States is the 1.8 VVTi as found in the Celica and MR2. The reason for this is that the car has to go through federalisation in order to be sold in the states. The engine has to be put through a test whereby it has to cover 100,000 miles and not have any new parts, not even belts and instead of trying to get the Rover K-series engine through this the used an Engine which had already passed it!!!!!!! That is what Lotus and Vauxhall and OPel have to do with it. Opel and Vauxhall are GM like Holden is in Ausralia. It was to show how the EcoTec motor is obviously considered a good unit. Only Elise Engines are toyota Remember!!!!!!!!!!!!
