Several questions about a 1986 300SEL
-
I recently bought an used 300SEL from a guy, but he sold it to me without its owner`s manual, so I am having a lot of trouble to understand some of the functions of the car. I must clarify that this is my first car, and that I dont really know that much about cars. First of all, I can`t find the swithes that open the engine and the trunk if the car. I have looked everywhere for them and I cant find them. Second, I dont know how to open the passenger doors. I know the car came with a central lock mechanism, that opens from the copilot door, but now (probably because the battery is dying) it doesnt seem to work. Thanks for your time. - |

Re: Several questions about a 1986 300SEL
The passenger door should unlock when you unlock the drivers door either by the key or the remote. The locks work off of a vacum system which probably has a leak somewhere. As far as a owners manual goes, you can call 1-800-for-mercedes and order one. Don't go to the dealer, the cost is the same but the shipping time takes FOREVER! Call the number and you will get it a lot quicker.
The hood release is under the knee panel all the way to the left, you will see it if you look9unless it's broken off, then look for a cable and use pliers) The saftey catch is under the star on the hood, actually in the star right under the center. The trunk is a push button where your key lock is. Just push the lock in.

Re: Several questions about a 1986 300SEL
OOOOOPS! I misread what forum i was in, I thought you had a 300sl 129 car. OK, the hood release is the same, the saftey catch comes out of the grill, pull out, not up. If you don't see it, it's probably broken and you will have to fish it out with a wire and replace it(about 5 bucks and 5 minutes). Trunk is the same, door locks are the same.
