02 Pathfinder

Hello, I'm new to this forum, but have been reading and found it very interesting, so I thought I would join. I just recently purchased an 02 pathfinder and the SES light came on yesterday. I hate dealing with dealerships and what have you, so I have been doing some research. Couple of pieces of info to know... I just changed my air filter two days ago, and on the same day filled my gas tank (with premium fuel). The next day (yesterday) the SES light comes on. So I checked the gas cap to make sure it was on properly and made sure the airfilter was installed properly, but the light is still on. The manual says to drive it a few more times, and if that's the problem it should turn off. Its 30 miles to and from work, which puts about 60 miles on since the light came on. Any thoughts on anything else I should check? I have seen a lot of posts about this, but all of them are for the 01 Pathfinder?
thanks!

Re: 02 Pathfinder

Any responses right now would just be guesses since there are so many codes. Even if you have 30 miles to and from work, you have to perform the right drive cycles for all the monitors to run and the code to clear, these can be tough if you are not getting up to highway speed. If you have an Autozone nearby they'll read and clear the codes for free. Just beware of their advice on how to fix the problem, you're better off posting back here with the actual error codes.

Just a noteepending on the severity of the code set, some codes will not erase by themselves. They need to be cleared manually.Eg: if you left your gascap loose and it caused the light to come on and sets a code ,tightening the cap will not clear the code.

Unless they changed something in the newer Nissans the MIL for all error codes will go out on its own after driving 3 times with no malfunction (if required drive pattern is met) and no other malfunctions are found.

Re: 02 Pathfinder

Just go to AutoZone. Usually they will check your CEL codes free of charge. Their policy varies from store to store tho'.
